I have long been curious about why we can find ourselves facing the same difficulties again and again; different situations or relationships, but familiar patterns underneath. I wanted to understand how these patterns develop, why they can be so difficult to change, and what helps people begin to relate to themselves and others differently. This curiosity is what first drew me to psychology.
I first discovered Schema Therapy through my own experience of therapy. When I began therapy more than a decade ago, it took time to find an approach and a therapist with whom I felt truly understood. Schema Therapy helped me make sense of my experiences with greater depth and compassion and marked the beginning of an important journey towards greater self-understanding and change. Later, it became the approach I felt most drawn to in my professional work.
What I find most meaningful about being a therapist is witnessing the moment when something begins to make sense, not only intellectually, but on a deeper emotional level. I value seeing clients recognise their needs, understand their reactions with less self-criticism, set boundaries, and begin to show up for themselves with greater kindness and compassion.
Originally from Croatia, I have lived in the Netherlands for 12 years and have also lived and worked in Mexico and South Africa for shorter periods. These experiences have taught me about identity, belonging, cultural differences, and what it means to start over in an unfamiliar place. They have deepened my understanding of the emotional complexity of building a life away from home.
I value authenticity, compassion, and genuine human connection. I aim to create a space where you do not have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or already have all the answers. Clients often tell me that they feel understood and able to move at a pace that feels right for them. I hope that therapy with me can help you feel safe, accepted, less alone in your struggles, and more hopeful about change.
I am also committed to lifelong learning. My ongoing training in Integral Body Psychotherapy continues to deepen my understanding of how our emotional experiences are connected to the body, helping me bring a more complete and integrated perspective to my work.
Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and structured. Together, we look beyond what is troubling you now to understand the emotional patterns, beliefs, and ways of coping that may be contributing to your difficulties.
I work primarily with Schema Therapy and integrate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside body-oriented approaches informed by my training in Integral Body Psychotherapy.
Schema Therapy can help you understand how earlier experiences and unmet emotional needs may continue to influence how you see yourself, relate to others, and respond in difficult situations. This may include being highly self-critical, fearing rejection, struggling to trust others, putting your own needs aside, or feeling guilty when setting boundaries.
ACT can help you respond more flexibly to difficult thoughts and emotions while making choices that reflect what matters most to you.
Many of the people I work with have spent so much time adapting to others, meeting expectations, or pushing through that they have become disconnected from their own needs. They may feel burned out, struggle with a harsh inner critic, or find it difficult to care for themselves and maintain satisfying relationships.
Sometimes, understanding a pattern intellectually is not enough to change it. You may know why you react in a certain way and still feel overwhelmed, tense, disconnected, or unable to respond differently. Paying attention to bodily signals can help you notice distress earlier, understand your emotions and needs more clearly, and feel more grounded when difficult feelings arise. Any body-oriented work is introduced collaboratively and at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
The aim is not simply to manage symptoms, but to help you develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself, respond to difficulties in healthier ways, and create lasting changes that feel meaningful in your everyday life.
