About

Becoming a mother can be beautiful; and unexpectedly overwhelming.

You may love your baby deeply, yet feel anxious, exhausted, lonely, or unlike yourself.
You might be experiencing:

  • Postpartum anxiety or constant worrying
  • Low mood or signs of postpartum depression
  • Guilt for not feeling “grateful enough”
  • Intrusive thoughts that scare you
  • Sleep anxiety, even when your baby sleeps
  • Feeling disconnected from your partner
  • Identity loss: “Who am I now?”

If you are an expat mother in the Netherlands, these feelings can feel even heavier.
No family nearby. No familiar support system. A different healthcare system. A different culture around motherhood.

You may look “fine” on the outside; but inside, you feel stretched thin.

You are not alone. And nothing is wrong with you.

My Specialisation

I specialise in maternal mental health, including:

  • Postpartum depression
  • Postpartum anxiety
  • Pregnancy-related anxiety
  • Baby blues that don’t seem to pass
  • Adjustment to motherhood
  • Identity changes after becoming a mother
  • Relationship strain after baby
  • Loneliness in expat motherhood

I work primarily with English-speaking mothers, especially expats living in the Netherlands who are navigating motherhood away from their home country.

Motherhood is a major life transition. It reshapes your body, your identity, your relationships, your sense of control. Even when it is wanted and joyful, it can feel destabilising.

As a mother myself, I understand how vulnerable this season can be. Professionally and personally, I hold space for the complexity of it.

How Therapy Can Help

In our work together, we focus on:

  • Reducing anxiety and emotional overwhelm
  • Understanding intrusive or frightening thoughts
  • Rebuilding confidence in yourself as a mother
  • Processing grief around identity shifts
  • Strengthening communication with your partner
  • Creating emotional stability during pregnancy and postpartum
  • Building a sense of belonging in a new country

My goal is not to turn you into a “perfect mother.”
It is to help you feel grounded, capable, and connected again.

Approach

Clients often describe me as calm, warm, and steady.

I work with evidence-based approaches including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Mindfulness-based techniques
  • Existential perspectives on identity and meaning

Together, we explore both practical coping tools and deeper emotional patterns.

Sessions are collaborative. You set the pace.
You do not need to minimise your struggles or pretend you are coping better than you are.

Therapy is a space where you can speak honestly about the parts of motherhood that feel hard - without shame.

Testimonials

"After my son was born, I couldn’t sleep because of constant fear that something would happen to him. I felt ashamed of how anxious I was. Being an expat in the Netherlands made it worse - my family was far away, and I felt isolated. Rebeka understood both the postpartum anxiety and the loneliness of living abroad. She helped me manage my intrusive thoughts and feel calmer and more confident as a mother."

"My partner and I were constantly arguing after our baby was born. I felt overwhelmed and unsupported, but I didn’t know how to explain it. Rebeka helped me understand my emotional triggers and communicate differently. Our relationship feels much stronger now."

"I thought I just needed to try harder. Instead, I was experiencing postpartum depression. Rebeka helped me understand what was happening psychologically and emotionally. Having a psychologist who specialises in maternal mental health made me feel safe and understood. I feel more stable and hopeful now."
