Perfectionism: from Toxic to Healthy

Register NOW in this FREE Webinar and find out the skills you need to build in order to use perfectionism to your benefit and shield your mental health.
Wednesday 13th July, 19.30-20.30 CEST, online

Why is Perfectionism BAD for me?

That's a question I hear very often:
"How come Perfectionism is bad, since it helps me become better and grow in my field and in my life in general?"

Here are 5 questions that will help you see how bad it is:

Can Perfectionism cause anxiety? YES.
Can Perfectionism cause depression? YES.
Can Perfectionism destroy your productivity? YES.
Can Perfectionism affect your relationships (all kinds)? YES.
Can Perfectionism hold you back and sabotage your growth and your career? YES.

Is Perfectionism really ruining my life?

Unfortunately, Perfectionism has a good version and a bad version.
Or as we call it, a healthy and an unhealthy/toxic side.

Our job is to figure out what is what, otherwise we risk having:
❌our inner peace ruined,
❌our career sabotaged and
❌our relationships broken
because of the harmful elements of toxic Perfectionism.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You feel burned-out and sometimes you are on the verge of quitting your job.
  • You procrastinate and you beat yourself up for not being able to break this cycle of useless procrastination.
  • You are strict and not easily satisfied with yourself and/or others.
  • You are overly stressed about future decisions to the degree that you can't enjoy the present moment.
  • Even though you achieve and succeed, you can't feel joy about this progress.
  • You have spent hundreds of hours ruminating about moving forward with a plan, a decision, and yet you can't make up your mind.
  • Only the thought of making a mistake or being embarrassed paralyses you.
  • You are always busy to a degree that you don't have time for non-work-related activities: self-care, friends, hobbies, relationships, family fun.
  • You don't easily ask for help and you prefer to struggle alone.
  • You can't remember the last time you felt care-free, guilty-free, relaxed, even bored.
  • You feel:
    • overwhelmed
    • guilty
    • stressed
    • confused
    • resentful
    • empty...

We need to distinguish TOXIC from HEALTHY perfectionism.

Yes, there is a healthy side of perfectionism.
One that you can still strive for excellence, you can still keep your ambitious, high goals,
BUT
  • you are not going to be exhausted anymore
  • you are not spending your time either paralysed or in panic
  • you feel joy and satisaction with your life
  • your mind is in peace again

I am also a perfectionist

As an entrepreneur with a gazillion ideas for growth, I found myself in the past on the verge of a burnout and struggling with negative thoughts, energy depletion and demotivation.

That's when I realised how my perfectionism was not healthy anymore for my mental well-being.

🚧But I didn't want to give up on my ambitious plans, my ideas, my passion, my growth.
🚧I didn't want to quit on all the progress I have achieved so far.
🚧I didn't want to stop supporting my clients and their mental health
🚧I didn't want to stop loving my job.

So, HOW can we be perfectionists (ambitious, busy, high-achievers)
AND STILL
protect our mental health, our relationships, our career, our progress, ourselves?

Once a perfectionist, always a perfectionist.

They say.

That's why I started talking so much about Perfectionism and working with thousands of perfectionists from all over the world.
It's essential NOW more than ever that:
👉we learn the difference between the unhealthy and the toxic perfectionism
👉we minimise the habits, the behaviors and the mindset of the toxic perfectionism
👉we build the new skills of the healthy perfectionism, required for keeping our energy HIGH and our mental well-being INTACT

It is possible.
I've seen it happening with my clients.
And the feeling of growing while protecting your mental health is SOOOOO REWARDING!

Remember: the price we pay for being a perfectionist is high:

We lose our sleep.
We get burned-out.
We get drained of our energy.
We feel a special type of tiredness that no amount of sleep can compensate for.
We hurt our relationships.
We procrastinate.
We lose our motivation.
We quit our jobs.
We become unhappy.

But it doesn't need to be that way.
